  SD-7, I'm glad you're starting to come to grips with things and seeking the help you need.

  I have an idea of what to do with your books. It's an idea I've been thinking about proposing here, anyway, before you even mentioned having books available.

  Lets have a sort of JWN Book Borrower's Club? When someone here has used the books to the extent he/she feels is necessary, and is willing to part with them, post the name of the available book or books in a "Book Borrower's" thread and someone who needs it at the moment can PM the person. The book is mailed to the person who needs it and then when that person is done with it, they post its availability on the Borrower's thread again.

  This isn't a method for building a personal library. The books are on loan for whatever period of time a person might need them, or until they are able to afford their own copy for building a library. Then they pass them on to someone else who needs them.

  The main negative I see in this is that those still "in" may have no viable way to receive these in the mail without being found out. That's up to the borrower to handle from their own end, though; I still think the system could work.

  Any ideas?

  What happened to your marriage after you stopped believing?

  i know some posters here went through or are going through some painful things right now because of no longer believing when they have a husband / wife that still does.

  others were able to free the minds of their spouse.

  i'm assuming the latter is a lot more rare.. anyone that wishes to share their story, please do.. i'm looking to pass the info on to someone who doesn't totally believe, but may marry a jw.

  We're slipping out together, fortunately, but even if we weren't I have no doubt our marriage would be improving because I'm becoming a better husband and father. I respect my wife more as an equal now that I'm not mentally under the delusion that she's my subordinate, and she appreciates it.

  Those with a spouse still "in" , I feel for you. You are in my prayers, whatever they're worth at this point.

  Have you Been Shunned Even Though Just Considered " Inactive " ?

  many of us here on the board are " inactive" , myself included.

  have not attended meetings or gone out in service for years.

  i haven't now for 6 years + .

  Even when you're "in" if you're not out in service, you don't get invited to the get-togethers. Out of sight, out of mind.

  A couple months ago my daughter's supposed best friend had a big thing at her house with a bunch of kids. Parents posted about it on Facebook with pics and everything. I didn't tell my kid about it because it would have hurt her badly but my wife and I were pissed. But it worked out for the best because it was a catalyst for us to start allowing our child to associate with whoever she wants: school kids, neighbors, whoever is kind to her is qualified to be her friend.

  Mill Hill Disfellowshippings

  a few months ago there was a thread about a couple of elders at the mill hill bethel being disfellowshipped because they disagreed with some wt doctrine (i can't recall exactly what it was) and that several other betheliteswere under 'investigation'.

  i haven't heard anything since, does anyone know anything more about this?.

  For some of the others, I'm not a moderator, just a concerned citizen, but could you take your personal grievances out on one another via telephone or Private Messages? I think I can safely say that most of us don't want to hear it.

  Are JWs discouraged from seeking mental help?

  my husband was raised in this religion, but was never baptized and does not go to meetings, although my mil is heavily involved.

  although my husband doesn't practice his religion, he believes it is the truth and i hate asking him questions, because he is very defensive of the religion.

  he and his mother, many years ago before i knew either of them, were treated for severe depression and hospitalized (at different times as a result of them going through divorces.

  ufo1, I would tell the doctor and also make clear (if you're still "IN") that he can't let on that you told him because of the way the group functions.

  And I had never heard of Bergman's book. Thanks for mentioning it; I'll add it to my "to read" list.

  Commentary on the Letter of James

  zoiks inspired this thread when he mentioned this book elsewhere.. i have read other threads on this forum about it, but i always enjoy the fresh insight on here.. commentary on the letter of james was always my favorite book from wtbs, partly because i love the book of james, but also because it was one of the books that dealt with more practical christian living than constant wt doctrine.. i mentioned to a number of people that i loved that book, and got a few comments of "well, you know that book was written by an apostate.".

  it didnt take me long to do a little math - that book came out i believe in 1979/1980, right around the time of the great purge.

  how could someone write such an excellent book and then be branded an apostate just a few months later???.

  recently i was cleaning my bookcase and found an old book that i enjoyed as a child.

  it had stories in it such as paul bunyan, pecos bill, and john henry.

  while these stories are fictional, i enjoyed them because they were entertaining, and easy to understand.. fast forward to the late 70's when i was a teenager sitting at the ca hall in janesville wisconsin.. the speaker was explaining the great sacrifice god made in sending his son down to earth to die for all mankind.

  Does anybody else feel relieved that they won't be tortured during the great tribulation?

  i grew up hearing about different ways people have been tortured in the past and was always scared of going through that during the gt.

  it was always an unhealthy obsession of mine.

  i always thought that i was more worried about it than other jws and that i would end up renouncing my faith to get out of it.

  Seems to me that at this point in time most rank and file dubs believe they will be protected by Jehovah through the GT AND Armageddon, even though the official doctrine is that these are two separate events and that only GT survivors will be protected through the Big A. None of them are afraid of torture anymore. The major, overriding fear dubs have is fear of being outside of God's favor when the ish hits the fan.

  In addition, many JWs feel it is noble to suffer, even if the suffering is easily remedied. They live in self-imposed poverty and can't afford therapy, anyway.
